Translation of the Statute

Article 1 – Origins and nature of the Agency

1. The association named “Agency for  Research on ALS - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis” , in short “AriSLA” hereafter referred to as “The Foundation”, is established under the initiative of AISLA (Italian Association Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), Telethon Foundation, Cariplo Foundation and Vialli e Mauro Foundation.

2. the Foundation, is established under private law and is regulated by the juridical principles and legal instrument of the “Partnership Foundation”, one of the types of foundations regulated by the civil code.

Article 3 – Aims and objectives

1. The Foundation aims to develop basic and applied research on ALS, acting as catalyst of several activities – planning of call for proposals, assessment of research projects, financing of selected projects, development of effective therapeutic treatments for ALS.

2 – Particularly, the Foundation pursues the following objectives:

   - to develop a multi-centric and multidisciplinary network between different academic research centres and clinical research centres dealing with ALS, in order to promote research activities to develop new treatments for ALS;

    - to develop a large network of scientists and researchers to boost synergies among research groups nationally and internationally
- to promote training for young researchers through the exchange among centers nationally and internationally

3 - In order to award financing to eligible research projects , the Foundation will use international assessment procedures. The assessment will be carried out by independent evaluators, not in a conflict of interest position with the possible beneficiaries of funds.
 

Article 4 – Additional activities

1. moreover, in order to reach its objectives, the Foundation can perform the following activities:

a) to promote own studies and researches;

b) to manage, rent or buy movable and immovable properties, installations, facilities and goods necessary to execute its functions;

c) perform bank and financial transactions, as well as capital and real estate investments and apply for grants, contributions and loans;

d) to stipulate contracts and agreements with private and public bodies, in order to carry out the above mentioned activities;

e) to promote agreements with scientific, cultural and educational national and international organisations, to support its activities as well as to promote meetings and conferences;

f) to support – even through agreements - the creation of other institutions, associations and agencies with similar objectives, in order to facilitate the fulfilment of its own objectives;

g) to stipulate acts or contracts for the financing of the authorised actions, including short-term and long-term loans, the acquisition of immovable property (as property or building lease) and to sign agreements;

h) to manage its own properties rented, loaned or simply owned;

i) to participate at the constitution of other foundations, associations, committees or other public or private associations pursuing similar objectives;

j) to build up, or to play a part in creating capital companies or to participate to such companies, provided that such operations are carried out in support of the Foundation primary aims and objectives;

l) to carry out organised other instrumental activities, relevant to its purposes.
